The bottom turn is the most important maneuver in surfing. It generates the required speed to the surfer performs maneuvers off the top of waves and also sets the proper angle of the entry turn.

As the surfer drops down the wave face, they should low into a compressed body position (yellow circle) while simultaneously leaning off their surfboard, engaging the rail on water surface and reaching the water surface with their front hand (green arrow), hold this body position while targeting (looking up/blue arrow) the top of the wave.

Once the surfer starts to head up the wave face, he/she applies their own power by straightening out of the compress body (yellow circle/front leg straight/red arrow) generating an extra projection to reach the top of wave and also by opening the shoulder with the front arm (green arrow) they can get a more vertical approach.
